A Day in the Life

Ok, I'm updating

Elia keeps harassing me because I don't update this thing as much as I should, but it's because nothing too exciting ever happens in my life. I want to avoid a post that says "I woke up. I went to work. I went home. I went to sleep". Or one where I ramble on and on about what a bad day I had at work or about all the people who pissed me off. Anyway, I do have some news. I am planning a trip to Yuma. I worked on Thanksgiving Day and I'm working a weekend show, so that means I get 2 comp days. So I'm thinking of taking a long weekend and visiting all of my friends in Yuma. I won't be able to go to the Christmas party like I had wanted to before because everyone is getting time off in December and I won't be able to afford a ticket then anyway, so I am trying to get up there the last weekend of January. The 28th through the 31st. But I wanted to make sure that everyone was going to be there because I don't want to fly all the way over there and have half of you guys gone for the weekend. So Stacey, ask around and see if anyone has anything planned that weekend. It's the weekend before February sweeps too, so we can all hang out before things get crazy at our stations again.

I Miss MY Production Crew!

I just had an awful 10 o'clock show! It's not that it looked that awful, it's just one of those that when you are in the control room, makes you want to get extremely fall down drunk when it is all over. It's been raining like crazy here for the past few days and when it rains, people crash their cars. So we had like 5 accidents here an hour before the show, and only 1 photog and 1 reporter, so I had to send them to the biggest one where someone died, but it was on the other side of town, so they rushed over there without a live truck or laptop editor, and when they found out how bad it was, I had to get my other photog who was editing a pack to drive all the way over to the other side of town and take the truck and editor over to them so that we could have a live shot and they could feed back a sot. So about 10 minutes before the show, he gets there and they still have to feed the sot back and then set up the live shot, and I'm trying to finish writing the rest of the scripts for the show and putting in the information about the wreck, so I don't get much time to check over the scripts and CGs and all that, so of course, they're all screwed up and the director and CG operator are yelling at me. So I tell them that I'm sorry but I didn't get a chance to look things over really well because of all the breaking news and they start making fun of me and telling me to quit making excuses. And it's not like MY production crew at KYMA who would mock me in a funny haha way...no, these guys are assholes. That's why I miss Vicki, and Javi, and Bert, and Stacey, and Eric, and Steve, and everyone! Maybe I was being overly sensitive today, because I was under so much stress, but I still don't think that they need to be assholes about things. But it doesn't end there, oh no, it couldn't. So then I get back in the newsroom after the show and my anchor's all pissed off because I didn't tell them in their IFB that the top story wasn't floating. But the director told the camera guy, so that should be enough when things are crazy like that, but no, I have to tell them in their IFB. Who cares if the director knows what is going on or not, as long as the anchors know what is going on...in their IFB. So I come into the newsroom and I tell him that I only have two hands and that they were both busy. Not in those exact words, but close. I mean, it's true, I'm talking to the photog on the scene with one hand, the photog in the live truck with another, rolling prompter, and trying to tell the director what we are doing, all when the show open is up and my anchor wants to know why I couldn't talk to him in his IFB. I'm going to go crazy here, I swear!

Welcome to my blog

My friends Elia and Stacey have been bugging me to start one of these things, so here I am. Notice all the pink on my page? That's especially for my best friend Elia :) There's not much to share about myself. My life is pretty boring, actually. Whoever said that working in news was a glamorous job obviously never held the title of Producer, Director, Production Assistant, or Assignment Editor, right guys? We are the little people behind the scenes who do a lot of the work, but don't get enough of the credit. Anyway, I hope all of you guys come and post here often and read all of my updates, so that you know what is going on with me.
